B.C.’s Agrifood Industry

The food processing sector includes 1800 firms, and there are more than 20,000 farms in B.C. Agrifood is one of the largest manufacturing sectors in the province. The Government’s Agrifood and Seafood Strategic Growth Plan (SGP) has a goal of increasing provincial agrifood revenues, by supporting the sector, driving competitiveness, increasing production and building markets.

As part of this plan, the Ministry of Agriculture is currently focused on the growth and promotion of agritech. As the convergence of technology with agriculture, Agritech represents significant opportunities for B.C. producers and processors to become more competitive and resilient to address future realities of climate change; and continue to realize significant revenues for the Province. The adoption of innovative technologies and solutions will advance key priorities of the SGP and the agrifood sector.
